Audiences 2.0: access the power of the internet!

WHO is your audience? HOW can you use the internet to connect with them?

IN BRIEF:

Arts Audiences is organising a series of one-day seminars designed to assist arts organisations develop internet strategies tailored specifically to their own needs. Seminars will be held in September in Dublin, Galway and Cork, and will cater to arts managers with varying degrees of experience in the area.

WHO IS IT FOR:

Seminars are designed for those arts managers who are responsible for the marketing of their organisations, from across all artforms.

Seminar 1 (Dublin) is specifically targeted at those with an understanding of the workings of the internet, but with little or no understanding of new developments in the area, e.g. of social media, blogging, web 2.0 etc. Seminar 2 (Cork, Dublin and Galway), is targeted at those with an understanding of current developments on the internet, such individuals may be their organisation’s primary contact with the web designer, should have an understanding of social media (e.g. how facebook works).

NATURE OF SEMINARS:

Seminars will be delivered by Aileen O’Toole of AMAS, and will involve a mix of hands-on exercises, discussions, learning points and “how-to” checklists. Subject matter to include;

  • Introduction to the key concepts of the world of web 2.0 – social media & online communities,  blogging, podcasting, videocasting, media sharing (NB Seminar 1 only).
  • Developing a web 2.0 strategy
  • Who is your audience – are they online, if so where?
  • What tools to use to access them?  How to evaluate and address your online needs
  • How to use social media applications effectively (facebook, twitter etc)
  • Measuring success and building on it (e.g. google analytics, search engine optimisation)
  • Exploration of examples of leading international practice online in an arts context.
  • Workshop – working in small groups, participants will plan strategies for a range of sample organisations.

In order to maximize learning, attendees will engage with the course tutor in advance of and following on from the seminar. Specifically, attendees will receive an online resource pack to be used in advance of the course, and will also be encouraged to partake in a follow-up online discussion in the weeks following the seminar.

Date:   Friday 11th September, 9.30am – 5.30pm

Seminar 2:   Civic Trust House, 50 Pope’s Quay, Cork
Date:   Tuesday 15th September, 9.30am – 5.30pm

About the tutor:
Aileen O’Toole acts as a strategic adviser to private and public organisations on their online channels. She was a co-founder of The Sunday Business Post newspaper. Since 2001, when she founded AMAS, she has led a series of challenging and significant strategy and related projects for private and public sector clients, including the Bank of Ireland Group, the National Consumer Agency and Tourism Ireland.  Aileen O’Toole was recently Campaign Director for the Ideas Campaign, launched in March as a citizens’ initiative to harness ideas for economic recovery. The campaign harnessed a wide range of Web 2.0 tools, from an open source content management and blogging system to RSS, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and email newsletters.

Course fee: A fee of €45 will cover tuition costs, coffees and lunch.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted by Friday 21st August, however it is advisable to apply early, as numbers are limited to 25 per seminar. Successful applicants will be notified by email, and will be required to pay in advance to secure their place. Every effort will be made to accommodate every applicant.
